I had a chance to visit the Evangelical Chinese Church in Seattle. This church is the first Chinese church in North America to use this book, "The Purpose-Driven Life," as church-wide material. Elder Hu told me that their church, after seeing how blessed the Saddleback Church was, sent 10 people to visit the Saddleback Church in California. The 10 people were very touched when they saw how much Rick Warren loves the Lord, and when they saw that he solely relies on the Lord. When the 10 people came back, they decided to first use this book, "The Purpose-Driven Life", among the co-workers and leaders in the church.
The assignment was for each person to study 6-8 pages of the book every day. They would get together each Saturday to discuss and share their comments. After forty days, each co-worker or leader felt blessed to know what the focus of a Christian's life should be on.
This year the church decided that the whole church and the branch churches would use this book. They purchased 900 copies of the Chinese edition of "The Purpose-Driven Life." Every Sunday, the pastor of the Evangelical Chinese Church outlines the theme of the coming week. When the congregation goes back to their own homes, they read and meditate on the questions at the end of each article. If some people are in a fellowship group, they also have a chance to discuss and share the insight from the book. Elder Hu said people they surveyed expressed that it is a good study book for them.
