NIV與《聖經新譯本》本都是忠於原文、易讀易懂的譯本。其中前者是現今英語教會最普遍使用的聖經譯本，而後者則是30多位華人聖經學者歷經30餘年以近代語言從原文翻譯而成，能使新一代的華人信徒更準確明白神的話語。將這兩個譯本並排出版，無疑是《新譯本•NIV》最大的價值所在。

The most common Chinese Bible (Union version) now used in Chinese churches was translated by foreign missionaries in 1919. Some words or terms that they used are not very common now. Also in the past 80 years, many ancient documents have been found, leading to a more accurate original text.

So since the 1970s, a group of about 40 Chinese Bible scholars have been working on a new Chinese translation of the Bible - the "New Chinese Translation Bible". In 2001, the Worldwide Bible Society was established to promote this new translation. In 2005, they published this New Chinese Translation /NIV paralell edition, since the NIV English version is still the most popular version in English-speaking churches.
This New Translation version is as accurate as possible to the original text.

All of the geographical and measurement terms are the same as the ones we use nowadays. The grammar and idioms are contemporary, it is much easier for younger generations, esp. age 35 and younger, to understand this version than the Chinese Union version.
